Operating a space to experience health principles based on the circadian clock

Advancing health management models through participatory feedback

 

Korea University Sejong Campus Biological Clock-based Anti-Aging Convergence Regional Leading Research Center (BCA2-RLRC) held the opening ceremony of the “CHL Living Lab Place” on the 21st at Science and Technology Building 1.

The CHL Living Lab Place is an interactive experimental space designed to implement and refine the Chrono Health Lounge (CHL), a health strategy model based on chronobiological principles, through user experience and feedback. It was planned by researchers at the BCA2-RLRC, who focused on modern individuals’ chronic hyperarousal and irregular lifestyle rhythms. Beyond being a simple resting space, it operates as a living lab-type research platform where users can directly experience health management methods based on biological clock principles and continuously improve them.

This space is characterized by natural imagery, repetitive and low-stimulation sounds, and sensory experiences that minimize lighting and environmental stimuli. These features help reduce excessive arousal in modern individuals and promote recovery of biological rhythms. Unlike traditional meditation or healing programs, it presents a novel approach by proposing “a short period of doing nothing” as the starting point of health management.

The center plans to operate the CHL Living Lab Place three times a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons) on a reservation basis. Participants will provide feedback through surveys and comments after experiencing the space. Based on this, the research team aims to develop chronobiology-based health management models suited to modern lifestyles and refine effective strategies. Furthermore, the center plans to explore the possibility of expanding accumulated experiential data into digital healthcare and city-level public health management systems.

Baek Seungpil, Director of the BCA2-RLRC stated, “Starting with the CHL Living Lab Place, we plan to continuously expand empirical research aimed at applying chronobiology and anti-aging research outcomes to real life. Through an open research platform that combines user experience with scientific data, we aim to present a new integrated online-offline health management paradigm and contribute to the spread of a biological clock-based health culture.”

The opening of the CHL Living Lab Place is significant in that it expands research outcomes into real-life environments, allowing validation and development together with users. The Korea University BCA2-RLRC will continue to conduct various empirical studies to enhance the social diffusion and practical application of chronobiology-based health management approaches.
